Nike Strikes Back

A while back I was smitten with one of Nike’s Leave Nothing commercials. I am not a person who purchases sportswear, plays sports, nor watches sports. But somehow they got me to pay close attention to their commercial.

They struck gold a second time with another Leave Nothing commercial entitled “Fate.” This time around the vignettes follow a boy growing up, becoming more agile, and eventually becoming a football star. It is a well coreographed visual narrative with a befitting audible narrative. The tune is a sublte remix of Ennio Morricone’s song L´Estasi Dell´Oro, or for you non Italian speakers, The Ecstasy of Gold. Metallica fans will no doubt be familiar with the tune and/or falsely claim that it is a ripoff of their work. The non-metalhead will recognize the theme from the excellent 1966 western film The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

Bravo Nike. You get a pat on the butt. But I’m still not buying your gear.

Taco Zeitgeist: Important Update

Achtung! Achtung! Taco Zeitgeist fans! This is a special announcement.

Übertaco über alles!

I have just received confirmation that Taco Bell will be distributing free hard shell beef tacos during the MLB World Series. If any player steals a base then you are entitled to a free taco between the hours of 2 – 6pm on designated redemption days at participating locations. The details can be found at this Taco Bell website.

In order to obtain maximum free taco goodness I recommend using Google Maps to plot all Taco Bell locations in your area.

All Operation Übertaco Einsatzkommando are to report to base for additional briefing.

System 7 Connected

System 7 AIM

I can’t believe it actually worked, but it did.

This is a screenshot of my pet project from the last month. It is an Apple Powerbook 520c from 1995 running System 7. Finding the hardware to connect it to the internet was the easy part. Making the software actually work was another thing entirely. But, low and behold, I’ve been able to make it work. The fact that AOL’s instant messenger still works on a 13 year old machine with modern computers is pretty amazing.

Special thanks goes out to Dan Palka’s amazing resource System7Today.com.
